Mc Speech For Wedding
5 Crucial Tips for Choosing a Wedding Mc by Gerry Faulkner
It’s the most important day of your life. You have the dress, the flowers, the venue – but what about your wedding MC? Having someone to make sure your wedding runs smoothly is crucial to making it a happy and memorable day for everyone. From making speakers feel at ease, to organising the running order of speeches and performers, a wedding MC holds everything together so that you can relax and enjoy your big day.
So how do you go about choosing an MC for your wedding? Where do you start? Well, there are some key attributes you should be looking for:
Voice and presentation skills
It’s something so simple, but the tone of voice, and even the pitch, can mean the difference between a good MC and a bad one. Having someone with a scratchy or squeaky voice, or an accent no one can understand, is a huge no-no. On the other hand, a deep well spoken voice can make for a fantastic and compelling atmosphere on the day. For this reason it’s essential that you don’t book an MC without first talking to them at length, and you both agree that you really like their speaking style.
Experience
Someone who has never worked as a wedding MC before could be a good host on the day, but it’s not a guarantee. For that special day, you may want to book someone who is an established speaker. This doesn’t have to be in the field of weddings, but it certainly helps. Those who have hosted events, and even MCs who work in media such as radio, will have the ability to speak to large audiences with ease, as well as the charisma required to command the room.
Sense of humour
The importance of sense of humour can’t be stressed enough! A wedding MC should know that a room full of people want to be entertained, and that the best way to unite friends and relatives, some of whom may never have met, is through laughter. This doesn’t have to mean a punch line every few seconds, but it should mean that the ambience on the day is happy, warm and fun for all your guests.
Calm under pressure
A wedding MC should be calm and collected at all times. Even when the unexpected happens, they should react with finesse. This means being able to fill the time with anecdotes whilst waiting for speeches, or doing simple things such as co-ordinating calls for photographs or announcing a band or the first dance.
Homework
A good wedding MC should do their homework – they should take the time to get to know you and your family before hand, so that they can be the best MC possible on the day. This means finding out any family jokes, and likes or dislikes, and also being careful to avoid any possible faux-pas. The fact is, if your wedding MC is familiar with you as a couple, and in tune with each of you, the atmosphere on the day can be really amazing. An MC can be the person who unites everyone in the room, and with the right knowledge and skills they can make your wedding an even more joyous occasion.
